It's just exhausting filling BOTH roles...
Courtesy of my GMail ticker:
"Dictionary.com Word of the Day - virago: an ill-tempered, overbearing woman; also, a woman of great strength and courage."
I find the dual definition a very interesting juxtaposition--much like most women I know have internalized similar dual interpretations regarding the words "bitch," "skank/hoe," or "cunt." Most of us would be pretty much okay with our best girlfriends calling us a bitch because we swiped their delicious martini/the last beer or delicious brownie/etc., but I'm pretty sure anyone else who calls me a bitch is going to know that I'm not okay with it. PDQ. No mercy.
I'm not incredibly comfortable with the dichotomous definitions so many words have in our wonderful language today... but the largest factor in that discomfort is this:
Where are all the words that make a man respectable, admirable and simultaneously a complete waste of human components?! Why are women the only people who are both great evils and strong human beings?!
I'm not sure why they didn't just exchange 'virigo' with 'Hillary Clinton.' I'm sure someone at CNN will figure this one out sometime today.
