Heart-Stopping
Incredibly scary: watching a vehicle get clipped in the front passenger quarterpanel, lose control, smash into the concrete wall in the middle of I-44, and spin erratically across 4 lanes of traffic twice before coming to rest.... then realizing there's a little girl in a car-seat in the back.
That happened today, while I was on my way back home from a First Watch study session. I was on the phone with my mom, and I stopped in the middle of a sentence to say "Fuckingshitfuckingshitfuckingshitfuckingshit!" I just *knew* that the car was going to end up in my lane, and I would never have had time to stop--or avoid being rear-ended by another vehicle going upwards of 60 MPH.
But it didn't happen.
That care wasn't touched by another vehicle after the initial contact that sent it careening into the concrete wall.
There were 5 lanes of traffic traveling eastbound at roughly 60-65 MPH. All avoided this car.
The driver was out of the car as soon as it stopped spinning--and he got the little girl out of her seat in just a few seconds. Neither of them seemed to be injured...just terrified.
Before I could even consider getting out of my car, the destroyed vehicle was surrounded by 5 other drivers--two of whom were in green scrubs, one of whom looked to be an off-duty police officer. A STL Fire & Rescue vehicle was driving past the accident scene with lights and sirens.
Within three minutes, a firetruck and an ambulance from Cardinal-Glennon were on the scene, proving that I-44 between Kingshighway and Grand is the best place to have an accident in St. Louis.
